Vasylyna Vrublevska

Vasylyna Vrublevska (1982) was born in Chernobyl, Ukraine.
Following the infamous explosion, Vasylyna’s family moved to Kyiv. In 2002, she began working with documentarian photography, initially exploring childhood and the influence of a person’s surroundings on their development. As well as evolving as a commercial and arts photographer, she has worked with cultural institutions as a lecturer and researcher, with a particular interest in the resurgence of religious events in Western Ukraine, which had previously been persecuted by the Soviet Union. Since 2022, Vrubenska has been dedicated to a film project documenting happenings in Ukraine.
In the last series, Vasylyna experiments with a notion of what photography is. She deliberately overexposes and damages film, resulting in painting-like textured surfaces.
